Gold and the US Dollar Index have historically had an inverse relationship — when the dollar strengthens against other major currencies, gold priced in dollars usually gets cheaper to buy in other currencies, which tends to weigh on demand and price, and vice versa. A reading near −1 means that relationship is currently strong; a reading near 0 means gold is moving on its own drivers (rates, risk sentiment, physical demand) largely independent of the dollar right now. It's a context signal, not a trade trigger on its own.
